Whether you are looking for a recreational sled, hard-working freight sled or light and fast race sled, DogPaddle can make the sled you desire.
Traditional skin kayak builders will tell you that the kayak must fit the individual. We like to carry that over to all our products, including dogsleds. What that means is that we want the sled to fit your body size, style of riding, breed of dogs, trail conditions, cargo weight, and any other special considerations. We use a variety of materials and techniques to tackle this. If you can dream it, we can build it.
Sleds can be built on laminate ash runners and aluminum Matrax or Rex runners. Stanchions are made from your choice of either quality White Ash, Alaskan Birch, Hickory, or Bamboo and can be laminated, as well as, reinforced with carbon fiber or kevlar sleeving for additional costs.
White ash (left) is the traditional sled building wood. Very strong, flexible and resilient. White Ash is the only wood used by DogPaddle Designs for laminated runners and other steam bent members. Hickory (second from left) is a super strong wood also used for baseball bats and axe handles, it rarely breaks, but is not as flexible as other woods. Hickory is not as resistant to rot as other species. Cross-Laminate Bamboo (Right), has alot of flexibility and unique aesthetics. Each of these types of wood can be used for stanchions and changes both the aesthetic and physical characteristics of the sled.
DogPaddle Designs is currently developing and testing different dogsled designs as well as building custom sleds, so check back for more designs in the future. Here are a few tested designs.

SHERPA
Expedition and Freight Toboggan Sled

This sled can haul it all.. The Sherpa was inspired and designed after sleds used by the arctic expolorers of team GoNorth. These sleds are built to haul large loads over rough terrain. Whether on a trans-arctic expedition, caribou hunting trip, or for everyday use on the trapline, these sleds are tough.
Specifications and Options: Laminated white ash runners 3" tall and 2" wide with .5" UHMW screw on runners and 8', 9' or 10' UHMW plastic bed, 20 - 28" width. Optional vertical handles for more turning power with large loads. Rope sides to help hold and lash large loads.

RaceBoggan
Stiff, Yet Very Manueverable Distance Racing Sled
Above shown with hickory stanchions and Matrax runners.
The RaceBoggan is a cross between a tobbogan and a raised tobbogan sled. It is very steerable and flexible but still has good longitudinal load support for large loads. A nice compromise between a race style sled and a toboggan.
Specifications and Options: Choice of 8' or 9' runners of laminated white ash, Matrax or Rex Runners. Choice of 5' or 6 x 1/4" UHMW plastic bed, 20" width.

Assasinator
Light, flexible Mid-distance/Distance Racing Sled
The Assasinator is strong enough to haul large loads while allowing for superb handling and flexibility on rough trails. A true racing machine! Our racing sleds have successfully been tested in the Aniak 150, Gin Gin 200, Two Rivers 200, Yukon Flats 300, Copper Basin 300, Yukon Quest 300, and Yukon Quest 1000 and sleds are tough enough to be an everyday training sled.

Kicksleds
The kicksled can be pushed and kicked with no dogs or can be hooked up to a maximum of two dogs for a real thrill.
It folds almost flat by pulling two pins for transport and storage. Runners are 6ft white ash and the rest of sled constructed from a variety of beautiful hardwoods. Small passengers may be carried on smooth and flat trails.

Folding KickBoggan
Small toboggan style sled for 1 to 2 dogs. Made for the ski-jourer who wants to do overnight camping trips without a large pack on their back. Put your pack in the sled instead and kick along to help your dogs. Also great for training leaders.

Pull a few pins and it folds to a flatter position for storage and transport.

Custom Sled Bags
DogPaddle Designs is currently not making sled bags. We can refer you to several local companies that can make custom bags to fit all DogPaddle Designs Sleds.
Refurbished Sleds
Are you looking for a cheaper option? I take older, more experienced sleds and give them a little TLC and then sell them to a loving home. Contact to find out if I have any used and refurbished sleds available.
Dogsled Emergency Care
Does your sled need a new ash runner? DogPaddle can repair your sled. We can fabricate or supply any wood or aluminum parts. We have 2 options for repairs. Our emergency service squeezes your sled to the top of the list for a fast repair for $70/hour labor plus cost of parts. If you are not in a hurry you can drop it off and we will fix it first come first serve for $35/ hour plus cost of parts. (No guarantee on finish time with first come first serve).
